History Behind The Bomb

The Atomic Bomb was designed and built by a man named Robert Oppenheimer.  Oppenheimer, along with several other scientists including Albert Einstein, were informed that Germany had began to purify the element Uranium-235;The Japanese had no intent of surrender, they lived by a code that stated they would rater die than lose honor. Now, the American government would not have ignored a direct message of immediate surrender from the Japanese. though the question still stands at if the government had any true time to asses the destruction that had occurred from the first bomb. On August 6, 1945, during World War II an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The explosion wiped out around 90 percent of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people; tens of thousands more would later die of radiation exposure. Three days later, a second B-29 dropped another A-bomb on Nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people. Japan's Emperor Hirohito announced his country's unconditional surrender in World War II in a radio address on August 15, citing the devastating power of "a new and most cruel bomb." The Allies demanded unconditional surrender of the Axis. In the Pacific Theater, the Allies, led by the United States, rolled up the Japanese expansion island by island. When Guam was taken, the Allies had a base from which stage an invasion. The estimates of American casualties for an invasion of mainland Japan was in excess of 1 million Americans. The United States dropped two atomic bombs to save American lives and speed the end of the war. Prior to using the atomic bomb, Japan was given ultimatums to surrender along with warnings of the dire consequences. The Japanese government ignored the warnings.
